’tis a wee bit breezy out there!
As the ASP World Championship Tour gets down to the wire with the start of the Triple Crown series in Hawaii, a few lucky rippers from here are packing their boards and sunscreen and are heading out. Toby D, fresh from his second placing in the UK Pro Surf Tour North Tyneside event is heading off to the seven mile miracle, this year being accompanied by step-dad Adrian from Fluid Juice Surfboards and Nathan (Bennetts). Adj is likely to be shaping with some of the heavyweights when out there while Tobes and Nathan are likely to find the odd barrel or two to hurl themselves into. Meanwhile fresh from their cruise around the tawdry surfspots of the Basque region, Cheyne & Sarah and Dom & Ash have fled for the heavenly wavefields of Indonesia. Along with just a few others.
And the rest of us? Well, we’ve all been enjoying an excess of swells throughout Autumn. October rocked with classic days at classic spots. Russell (Winter) and Oli (Adams) rocked up with their jet ski and showed us the benefits of being whipped in at speed to a crashing, bowling peak, while the groms continue to hyperactively slaughter any swell that dares to crash onto these shores, all the time under the watchful and experienced eye of British Junior Team Coach Micah Lester.
Micah has also been busy establishing his Evolution Surf Development business, an advanced coaching and training service aimed at developing youngsters’ talents. It’s no great surprise then that Micah was awarded the UK Pro Surf Award for ‘Most Inspirational Surfer’, as sponsored by A1Surf.com. And all that on top of winning the Relentless Aerial Assault contest down at this Summer’s Boardmasters Festival. Ness ‘n Neil toured the North and the West and the East and then came South again, while Hilly took his taxi to the North East and scored triple overhead perfection alongside Euge and a host of others who made the long haul Newcastle bound.
And so the run up to Christmas is upon us. Not long now!

It’s been a while!
Yeah, it has been a while hasn’t it? Summer has a come and a gone in a blaze of okayness. But Spring and Autumn were the beautiful bookends to an otherwise nondescript summer of surf. Highlights included Dom being laid back and relaxed, trussed up in a score of Breo health and beauty watches (“increased concentration”, “improved relaxation”, blah, blah, blah and they tell the time too, maybe), Bennyboy striding into sport-surfing with a twinkle in his eye and a strategy honed from minutes at Harlyn under Micah’s tutillage while all the time the groms were on fire! Tobes grabbed a Carve cover and slipped off to London to celebrate, leaving the backdoor open for Rhys, Ferg, Cam, Dan and the others to strut their competitive and funky stuff on the wave faces of St. Merrynland. And Cheyne is surfing at Cheyne’s. Watch out for heaps more to come!

The Des and Dom Show!!!
Not many know that Des and I are rhythmic gymnasts. Here we are last year….

WOW… thats english for stop a horse!
Yes, another bank holiday weekend has been and gone. In the shop we saw the return of t’ Nat, and was great to see young Ben working harder than ever. Des was on form making the most of the sunny weather, and I couldn’t believe the surf! It has been really really really good, and not too many out, but loads on the beach!
But as ever nothing lasts for ever, and the surf has kind of gone funky and most of the weekenders have departed. But its all good!
I think it could be a good summer, fingers crossed… if this weekend is anything to go by!
Peace out

Bobby M Wins at Teahupoo
Bobby Martinez beat Taj “Burrito” Burrow in a thrilling final to the Tahiti event. It wasn’t by any means “classic” Teahupoo, despite this the WCT boys shredded the 3 – 4 ft range. Taj was on hot form, but couldn’t beat Bobby who had tough heat draws leading up to the final.
Outstanding performance of the competition had to go to the little Basque man Artiz Aranburu, who made it all the way to the Semis after beating Dane Reynolds, Kelly Slater and Tommy Whitaker. And a man back on for is the not so young Mick Campbell. Mick Smashed and fought his way through the best of the WCT in the worlds best waves.
Well it was a great competition, nice to see a few dark horses make a few rounds. Even better to see my fantasy surf team take the lead of the club house!
Peace Out…

Surf words “bro”…
In surfing there are many strange and peculiar often fascinating trends that occur; SUP boarding and shinny VW vans being a couple. However one trend that is as strong now as ever is surf words dude. Yes, words that have no meaning or relevance to the “outside world” yet mean so much to the surfing community.
Words like dude, rad, sick, gnarly and many more. Despite the stereotyping that is achieved using these words, we the “rad” surfing community will carry on the “mega” tradition of using odd words in even weirder parts of “gnarly” sentences.

Kelly Out… Parko Follows!
The latest shocking news from the world most perfect wave, 9x world champ Kelly Slater went down in the second round to young Basque countryman Aritz Aranburu. And this years tour points leader Joel Parkinson went out in the third round to the muscle bound hero Taylor Knox! Shock horror!! To be honest the conditions looked less than favorable, with no massive tubes to be had in the 4 – 5 foot range.

Chasing two massive scores kelly threw himself at all Teahupoo could offer. In any normal event it would have been a 10.
Hopefully the surf will get better for the rest of the competition… now kelly is out I’m backing Tommy Whitaker all the way. GO TOMMY.
Peace and Harmonicas
